After conquering locks 50 down to 29 we still had 7 to get through before officially finishing the 29 lock flight. By comparison this stretch was easy and we met a lovely couple – Bill and Linda – from Canada who helped us with the last few and then came on a ride down to the Three Magpies Hotel in Sells Green for a well deserved beer/cider and lunch. We hope to catch up with them soon in Bath or on the way back up the flight before they leave England and return to Canada.
One of the real joys we have experienced thus far is meeting all sorts of really interesting and helpful people who have supported our journey in myriad ways. As we left our mooring this morning another couple were travelling part of the way so we shared the task of swing bridge and lock operations all the while learning heaps from them!!! Everyone seems so willing to share their knowledge and experience whilst giving us a lift when our novice status has us feeling vulnerable.
The weather today became windy with a few showers particularly when Bron was walking along the tow path between swing bridges. Wasn’t very comfortable on board for Bob either as the wind really blew our Celtic Maid around. Eventually we gave into the weather and found a mooring – the first time we have had to use mooring pins but we did alright.
Apparently someone has drowned their boat in a lock in Bath so not sure how close we will be able to get to there. Everyday brings new and interesting challenges to achieve but so far we are feeling pretty good!!!!
Hi again
It was our pleasure to meet you both and share a wee part of your exciting journey. Looking forward to our next reunion!
