We got to stay in Bath a few more days waiting for our new UK bank account debit cards to arrive. After checking on Thursday with no success we decided to move and refill our water in case we had to wait until Monday. But after lots of rain and a bit of procrastination we took a walk on Friday to the bank to check (and another visit to Vodaphone to try and work out our phone connection!) and success!!!
The prolonged stay in Bath meant that we had the chance to start our herb garden – we now have mint, parsley, coriander, sage, basil, oregano, thyme and rosemary all growing beautifully in balcony pots on the roof – and get a reel for our water hose to keep it under control. TV aerial still a bit of a challenge but we are picking up stations at last.
We also had the chance to catch up with Bill and Linda again and the invitation still stands to help us up the Caen Hill lock flight!!!! And we had a little more time getting to know Jo who we had moored beside for the last week. We hope to see her again as we continue along this canal. There has been no let up in getting to know people and experiencing how helpful they are to us newbies on the canal.
Whilst Bob has gained more confidence in maneuvering the boat (Bron is just a tad slower to volunteer this task), all advice is welcome as we get to know what to do and where to go. Bob even managed three turn arounds in the winding holes without any damage when we wnt to refill the water tank!!! For those not in the know, the winding holes are designated areas to turn narrowboats around on the canals. It is a bit tricky but practice makes perfect.
So this morning we left Bath and headed East along the Kennet and Avon Canal retracing our journey towards Devizes. We anticipate taking our time a bit and stopping off in the small towns along the way for a look. Tonight we are in Bradford on Avon – have had a quick look around but think we might stay tomorrow to have a further look.
Please check out the gallery for some photos of the trip so far.
Isn’t it grand – stop when and where you want – go when and where you want. Enjoy. xxx
