So here we are still in Fenny Compton.
The things we planned to do are slowly happening. We have spent lots of time with our friends Jim and Chris on Sylph – shared meals, afternoons in the pub, day trips to Warwick, Leamington Spa and Southam, catching up again with Marian and John. And getting more familiar with their beautiful dog Gina who hopefully will spend 2 weeks with us in January on board Celtic Maid keeping Bunion company!!!! This time has certainly been a tonic for us and hopefully for Chris and Jim as well.
Haircuts last Tuesday had both of us feeling refreshed. Never underestimate the healing power of a good haircut!! And a little colour to brighten the attitude!!!! We highly recommend the Sintra salon here at the Fenny Compton Wharf – would be happy to teleport ourselves back here every time we need our hair attended to!!!
The wonderful Karl arrived on Thursday morning and measured up for the cratch and cover (that’s the bit just behind the pointy end for those not in the know) – so things are progressing there!! We have aranged to have the additional roof drains done this week but alas the weather has been against us. Apparently it rains here in England – quite a lot. Who would have thought!? And being October the weather has decided to stop being nice and dump coldness and wetness on us making cutting and welding metal a tad difficult. But maybe tomorrow……
A few strolls down into the village of Fenny Compton (about a 4 km round trip) to gather essential supplies and yet another GP visit – Bob has blocked ears now and we will be back there again today to have them syringed!!!!
All in all this is a lovely area and the time has been restful. We forget sometimes to have a weekend of rest and find ourselves constantly on the go. With winter fast approaching we will be forced to stop sometimes – rain, ice, snow, wind all conspiring to slow us down. But this may be a good thing.
Reflecting on our 7 months aboard Celtic Maid has revealed just what a hectic time it has been. Not that we are consciously rushing but neither of us can comprehend how we fitted in a working life before this! It has been all we hoped for and much, much more. So many new sights and new experiences. Meeting relatives for the first time (or for 48 years!), meeting new friends and keeping in contact with those we love who are far, far away has been wonderful, exciting, fulfilling and at times sad. We miss our beautiful family – parents, children, grandchildren and siblings – and our friends. But we continue with this journey secure in the knowledge that those who love us are cheering us on and supporting us in our dream.
Tomorrow we are off to London for the eye specialist appointment on Thursday – we are anticipating good news and maybe an extended time between visits to enable us to venture a little further!!?? Then we will look in earnest at the maps and maintenance closures affecting the canal system over winter, and plan a route for the winter cruising. So much to see and do and hard to believe that it is almost a year since we left Australia!!!

Ted can sympathise with the ears situation and wishes he was there to help Bob to the Doc. Always good for a beer after the visit to celebrate hearing renewed and pain gone.
It seems like you are having a great time on the canals, too much to worry about being snowed in this winter in Canada, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a mild winter for you.

Ted can come over and take him to the doc any time he likes!!!! Winter will be fine I’m sure – we just have to toughen up!!! Not skinny yet = too much socialising!!! xxxx
hello hello. Sorry I haven’t ‘spoken’ to you for ages but we were away in holiday in Greece!! We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed ourselves. Even Keith had a great time and I have smiley photos to support that claim!!! You brought a lot of childhood memories back to me when I read about Horning. When I was young we spent many holidays on the broads as I was a Norwich girl and my grandfather had a summer house there and kept his lovely wooden cabin cruiser there! The Broads are very beautiful and was wondering if you went to the Ferry Inn at Horning? I think that is what it was called. Real cod sounds lovely. I can smell it! Hope Bobs eye is finally on the mend. You need a break from hospital appointments. Now who is Bunion? Is he the skeleton that I have seen in the photos?? Keith’s ‘stuff’ that he bought when in UK has arrived in Adelaide so now awaiting for it to be cleared through customs and delivered!!

Hey I never knew you were a Norwich girl!! Beautiful bit of country and we did spend a bit of time at Horning but not at the Ferry Inn. Bunion is our dog – not visible to all but usually well behaved, good company and much loved member of the crew!!!!! So pleased Greece was great – we hope to visit at some stage before we return permanently to the southern hemisphere!! xxxxx
