The map shows you where we have been moored for the last week or so but we are now on our way to Rugby and moored near bridge 81 on the North Oxford Canal. We are finally on the move and if the weather permits should be making progress into new territory within the next few days.
We ended up staying another week near Stockton while Jim and Chris got some necessary electrical work done to their boat NB Sylph. We didn’t waste the time, making several trips to Warwick, Leamington Spa and Banbury (even though we were heading to Stourport but that is another story entirely!!), getting a few jobs done and helping Chris select an outfit for her daughter’s wedding in February. I think Bob and Jim enjoyed their boy’s time too!!!!
We were also successful in getting in a supply of medications for Bob’s eye and seeking medical advice re Bron’s cold which has ended up being a virus requiring 2-6 weeks of patience. Not likely!!!!
When we finally returned to Braunston, mooring in our favourite spot, we had the privilege of going to visit our friends Max and Jenny in Youlgreave, Derbyshire. We were there a year ago as we searched for Celtic Maid and celebrated our ownership of her 2 days ago on the 17th December – wow a whole year!!!!
Whilst in Youlgreave we met Max and Jenny’s son Joe, his partner Gemma, and 4 year old daughter Maisie, for breakfast. Maisie kept us all in line playing in the cubbyhouse and climbing over the play equipment. She certainly is a treat to be around! We also visited the spa town of Buxton and took in its many beautiful sights including the opera house. Whilst tempted to attend the pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, the thought of sharing the audience with a few hundred school children deterred us. Jenny and Bron got a sneak peak in the theatre and it is just gorgeous. We settled for a coffee in the chocolate shop and a walk around the shops – much more relaxing! Max drove us around the area which is very beautiful despite the bleak weather. We can see why they like living in this part of the country.
There are several photos of our time with Max and Jenny in the gallery. One memorable moment was when Bron exclaimed “I can see a rainbow” which coincided with Joe bending over to help Maisie, and his response “Is that what they call a plumbers crack in Australia?” There really was a rainbow and photo to prove it!!! And Max and Jenny shared their special friends with us too!!!
We hope to find a nice mooring and will spend Christmas catching up with family and friends on skype and maybe having a drink or two with Chris and Jim. We do hope all our followers have a wonderful Christmas with the special ones in their lives and that you keep safe and happy.
Glad to see you are looking better Bron. Bob’s eye looks very good too. I hope the weather holds for the Christmas season and you and Bob get out to have a slap up Christmas dinner. Well despite the cold weather and your cold virus you both look really well and rugged up!! The scenery around Buxton and the rest of Derbyshire is beautiful and I love visiting the area. We have just got back from spending time in Sydney with Sal, Jon and Myles. Myles turned 1 while we were there and is now walking everywhere and causing havoc!! Sal is expecting again(have I told you this!!) she is due Judy before we leave for UK in July. They have bought another place in Sydney, an old cottage, which they hope to have renovated by the time number 2 arrives!! They hope to stay there for May e a couple of years then do up the house they gave and sell the renovated cottage!! These young ones do things very different these days!!

Stumbled across your website while goggling our own believe it or not, very similar key words! Got to reading and enjoying your exploits in wintery England, sounds like you are getting around and having fun doing it! My wife and I have been blogging (twoaussiesnarrowboating.blogspot.com) up until we just had to come home to see the grandchildren and spend time being warm in the Australian summer. Hello to you both. I have just tried sky ping but sadly no answer.I ..just wanted to wish you a wonderful christmas.Sorry to read that you have been unwell Bron. Here we are both good, this time of year is hectic, We went to Melbourne last week for Joes brothers 60th. We will be having Christmas at Daniel and Haleys tomorrow not all the family, that will be new years at our house love it if you could come, It has been such a long time ! Miss you guys. Was good to have a quick catch up the other day and a few minutes later we found our we are grandparents again!!! Fergus was born at 10.58 on Xmas Eve!!! Would love to come for new years!!!! Much much love to you both and we will see you soon!! xxxxxxx
